What Is Widow's Bay About?

Widow's Bay is Apple's new comedy-horror series set on a fictional New England island where the locals take their curses very seriously and their skeptical new mayor absolutely does not. Matthew Rhys stars as Tom Loftis, a reluctant leader trying to run the town through logic and reason while everyone around him insists something genuinely strange is happening under the surface.

Kate O'Flynn plays Patricia, Tom's eccentric assistant, bringing a chaotic energy that somehow keeps the mayor's office functioning despite itself. Kevin Carroll's Bechir Clemmons is the town's sheriff, the one person residents actually trust to keep order when the island's strangeness starts causing real problems. Dale Dickey plays Rosemary, an office employee who takes the old superstitions far more seriously than her official job title would suggest, and Stephen Root rounds out the cast as Wyck, a mysterious fixture of the island who seems to know more than he lets on.

The show leans hard into the tension between Tom's rationalism and the town's certainty that Widow's Bay really is cursed, using that friction for both horror and comedy in equal measure.
