Learn More About North of North

North of North is the warm, sharply funny Canadian comedy set in Ice Cove, a tiny fictional Inuit community on Prince of Wales Island in Nunavut. Created by Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, it premiered in January 2025 on CBC, APTN and Netflix — making it Netflix’s first Canadian original series — and quickly became one of the most critically adored comedies of the year.

The show follows Siaja Kudlak (Anna Lambe), a young Inuk mother who married straight out of high school and, in a very public and very memorable moment, decides she is done with her marriage to the town’s golden boy. What follows is her messy, hopeful, frequently mortifying attempt to reinvent herself in a place where everyone knows everyone and nothing stays secret for long.

Season 2 arrives on Netflix on November 5, 2026, picking up with Siaja newly single, sleeping in a storage room and hunting for an identity of her own. A tiny dating pool, old customs and a toddler who does not care about her personal growth make that harder than it sounds — and the occasional snowmobile disaster across the tundra does not help.

The supporting cast is what makes Ice Cove feel real. Maika Harper is a scene-stealer as Neevee, Siaja’s blunt, funny and fiercely protective mother who runs the local store. Braeden Clarke plays Kuuk, a researcher with family roots in town whose quiet chemistry with Siaja keeps viewers yelling at their screens. Zorga Qaunaq’s Millie is the free-spirited co-worker everyone needs, and Bailey Poching’s Colin runs the local radio station and dispenses some of the show’s best one-liners.

Mary Lynn Rajskub (24) and Jay Ryan round out the ensemble as Helen, Siaja’s well-meaning but overwhelmed boss at the community centre, and Alistair, the outsider researcher Kuuk works for. Nutaaq Doreen Simmonds plays Elisapee, an elder whose presence grounds the show’s funniest episodes in Inuit values like sharing, cooperation and respect for elders.

Part of the show’s appeal is how naturally it blends heartfelt themes — gender roles, sobriety, motherhood, spirituality and community — with genuinely silly comedy. Filmed in Iqaluit with a largely Inuit cast and creative team, it offers a perspective on Arctic life that has rarely, if ever, been seen on mainstream television, and it never stops being funny while doing it.
