The Marlow Murder Club returns for a third season on MASTERPIECE on PBS, premiering September 6, 2026. Based on the bestselling novels by Robert Thorogood (creator of Death in Paradise), the cozy mystery series follows three unlikely amateur sleuths solving murders in the affluent, gossip-filled English town of Marlow — this time as an established, if unofficial, part of the local police team.

Season 3 adapts the third novel in Thorogood's trilogy, The Queen of Poisons, and unfolds across six episodes covering three new mysteries: the sudden death of Marlow's beloved mayor, a celebrity chef found dead at his own cookbook launch, and a university reunion gone wrong at an eerie manor house — one that puts vicar's wife Becks Starling herself among the suspects.

Samantha Bond leads the cast as Judith Potts, a retired archaeologist and Times crossword setter who lives alone with her cat and a closely guarded dark secret of her own. Bond has described Judith as anything but an "innocent old lady" — she's sharp, self-sufficient, and drawn into the case as much by curiosity as by a genuine desire to see justice done.

Jo Martin's Suzie Harris is the town's dog walker and de facto information broker, someone whose warmth and directness get people talking in ways official channels never could. Cara Horgan's Becks Starling starts the series looking like the model vicar's wife, but her arc has steadily revealed a woman with far more ambition, intuition, and hidden steel than Marlow's gossips ever gave her credit for.

Rounding out the core group is Natalie Dew as DS Tanika Malik, the sharp young detective whose growing career means increasingly having to justify why she keeps bringing in three civilians to help crack cases. Dew has praised Tanika's confidence in knowing when to ask for help rather than muscle through alone — a trait that makes her dynamic with the trio work as well as it does. Series regulars Holli Dempsey, Phill Langhorne, and Tijan Sarr return as well, rounding out Tanika's team on the police side.

What sets The Marlow Murder Club apart from the wider cozy mystery genre is its emphasis on female friendship: as Horgan has pointed out, the show consistently passes the Bechdel test, with its four leads driving the plot through their own instincts and relationships rather than orbiting around any male love interest. That sense of camaraderie extends off-screen too, with the cast reportedly keeping a running group chat between seasons.

With three fresh mysteries, returning guest stars like Nigel Harman and Peter Davison, and the same blend of wit, warmth, and genuinely clever plotting that's made the series a MASTERPIECE Mystery! favorite, Season 3 gives fans plenty of new material to test just how sharp their own detective instincts really are.
