The Boroughs is a supernatural sci-fi series set in a seemingly idyllic retirement community in the New Mexico desert. The residents move in expecting peace and comfort. Instead, they find a place where something is very wrong.

The story follows Sam, a recently widowed retired aeronautical engineer who reluctantly moves into the community. Alongside him are Judy, a retired journalist, and Wally, a retired doctor facing a serious illness. As strange events pile up, the group discovers a conspiracy involving a creature living underground and a cult that steals youth.

The cast is the biggest draw. The ensemble includes Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, Dee Wallace and many more. Seeing so many veteran performers lead a genre series gave the show an unusual energy, and each character is distinct enough to fit a quiz perfectly.

The community itself is run by cheerfully unsettling corporate staff. Blaine, the young CEO of The Boroughs, represents the polished face of the operation, while characters like Renee, a retired music manager, bring warmth and personality to the residents’ side.

The series premiered on Netflix in May 2026 and has stayed in the conversation among viewers who like mystery, horror and character-driven stories. It was canceled in June 2026, which has only made fans more eager to revisit its single season.
