Which Gintama Character Are You?

Learn More About Gintama

Gintama is one of the most beloved comedy anime of all time, a long-running series that mixes samurai action, sci-fi parody and sincere emotion. It is set in an alternate Edo-period Japan that has been invaded by aliens, where the samurai have lost their swords and their status.

At the center of it all is Gintoki Sakata, a lazy, sweet-toothed freelancer who runs the Odd Jobs shop. He is joined by Shinpachi Shimura, the straight-laced assistant who handles most of the shouting, and Kagura, a powerful young alien girl with an enormous appetite.

The humor is what made the series famous. Gintama breaks the fourth wall, parodies other shows and turns the smallest everyday problem into an all-out war. Yet the series also knows when to switch gears, delivering long action arcs and emotional stories that hit just as hard.

The supporting cast is huge. Sougo Okita is a chaotic police officer with a talent for teasing. Kotaro Katsura is a former rebel who takes his cause very seriously, even when it makes no sense. Every recurring character has a clear comic identity, which makes the show perfect for a personality quiz.

That blend of silliness and heart is why Gintama fans are so devoted. People who like Gintama love how it can make them laugh one minute and care deeply the next.
