Netflix's live-action Assassin's Creed series began principal photography in Rome on March 9, 2026, based at Cinecittà Studios with an expanded Ancient Rome backlot built specifically for the production. The series is set in 64 A.D., the year of the Great Fire of Rome, and stars Toby Wallace, Lola Petticrew, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, and Zachary Hart as series regulars, with Prometheus co-stars Noomi Rapace and Sean Harris joining in recurring roles alongside Claes Bang and Nabhaan Rizwan.

Showrunners Roberto Patino and David Wiener, along with Rapace and Harris, issued a joint statement describing the show's real stakes: "Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith." Netflix's official logline frames it as "a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind's future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will."

Filming is expected to run seven months across Rome's Lazio region and Tuscany, with Netflix targeting a 2027 release. It's a fitting franchise to adapt this way: nearly two decades after the first Assassin's Creed game, the core conflict between Assassins and Templars still comes down to the same question, just relocated to a new century each time.
