Which All American Character Are You?

Learn More About All American

All American is the sports drama that follows high school football star Spencer James as he moves from South Crenshaw in Los Angeles to Beverly Hills, balancing the pressure of elite athletics with the challenges of two very different worlds. Inspired by the life of former NFL player Spencer Paysinger, the series premiered on The CW in October 2018 and has since grown into a long-running favorite with a huge following on Netflix.

What sets the show apart is its warm emotional core. At its heart is a story about family, community and opportunity, with Spencer and his mother Grace trying to build a better life while staying connected to home. Spencer's friendships and rivalries, from teammates to love interests, give the series its soapy, high-stakes energy.

The Baker family is another reason fans keep coming back. Olivia Baker, played by Samantha Logan, is Spencer's fiercely loyal best friend and a rising star in her own right, while Jordan Baker, portrayed by Michael Evans Behling, brings drive and comedy. Layla Keating, played by Greta Onieogou, adds style and ambition, and Patience, played by Chelsea Tavares, grounds many of the family scenes with humor and heart.

Over its seasons, All American has expanded its world with the spin-off All American: Homecoming, set at an HBCU, and a growing universe of crossover storylines. It has tackled issues like race, class, mental health and the pressures facing young athletes, all with the sudsy pacing of a teen drama and the intensity of Friday night football.

The series also benefits from its ensemble casting, with Daniel Ezra leading as Spencer and an energetic supporting cast that keeps storylines fresh. Every season builds on the last, expanding the stakes both on and off the field and giving viewers plenty of characters to root for, argue about and see themselves in.
