HBO's Watchmen took Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' landmark graphic novel and pushed it forward decades, landing in an alternate Tulsa where masked vigilantes are outlawed and a white supremacist group called the Seventh Kavalry is on the rise. Created by Damon Lindelof, the limited series stars Regina King as Angela Abar, alongside Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Tim Blake Nelson.

The show folds real American history into its plot, most notably the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, and uses its superhero framework to dig into memory, generational trauma, and justice. It won a stack of Emmys and is widely considered one of the best limited series HBO has ever made.
