Transformers One, the 2024 animated prequel from Paramount and Hasbro, reimagined the franchise by going back to the beginning. Instead of the Autobots and Decepticons already at war, the film introduces Cybertron before the fighting started, when two miners named Orion Pax and D-16 were close friends who dreamed of something bigger than their assigned roles. The film is now arriving on Netflix, which is putting a new audience in front of it.

Orion Pax, voiced by Chris Hemsworth, is a curious, rule-breaking optimist who longs to prove that even a low-ranking miner can make a difference. His humor and stubborn hope are the emotional core of the film, and his story explains how a scrappy dreamer eventually becomes the hero the franchise knows as Optimus Prime.

D-16, voiced by Brian Tyree Henry, is Orion's best friend and the more serious and ambitious half of the pair. Driven by a need for respect and fairness, he becomes the character we know as Megatron. The movie makes his fall feel tragic rather than simply villainous, which is a big part of why the friendship-turned-rivalry resonates so strongly.

Elita-1, voiced by Scarlett Johansson, is a capable, determined Cybertronian who is one of the first to see the truth about their world. She is a natural leader who does not hesitate to act, making her the ideal fixer in a crisis. B-127, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, is the wisecracking future Bumblebee: playful, loyal and the emotional glue of the group.

Sentinel Prime, voiced by Jon Hamm, is the polished leader of Cybertron who presents himself as a hero and guardian. He represents the pull of order and authority, and the story asks tough questions about who really gets to decide what a society needs.

The film's bright animation and comedic energy helped it appeal to longtime fans and newcomers alike. The voice cast and the origin-story structure gave the franchise a fresh emotional angle, and the new streaming window brings it back into conversation.
