Which The Powerpuff Girls Character Are You?

Learn More About The Powerpuff Girls

The Powerpuff Girls, created by Craig McCracken, premiered on Cartoon Network in November 1998 and quickly became a worldwide hit. The series follows three super-powered kindergarten girls who protect the city of Townsville from monsters and villains before bedtime.

The girls were created by Professor Utonium in a lab accident. He mixed sugar, spice and everything nice, but accidentally added Chemical X to the mix, giving the girls incredible powers. The result was Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, three sisters who balance saving the world with school and family life.

Each girl has her own personality. Blossom, the red-haired leader, is smart and commanding. Bubbles, the blonde sweetheart, is cheerful and kind, and she can talk to animals. Buttercup, with her black hair, is the toughest and most hot-tempered of the trio. Their contrast is the heart of the show.

Townsville's villains were just as memorable as its heroes. Mojo Jojo, a genius monkey with a dramatic way of speaking, is the girls' most famous enemy, while HIM, Fuzzy Lumpkins and the Gangreen Gang brought their own flavors of trouble. The Mayor and Ms. Bellum, with her unseen face, added humor to every crisis.

The show's style mixed bold, graphic art with fast-paced action and clever references. It earned acclaim from both kids and adults, and a feature film, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, arrived in 2002. The series also inspired a 2016 reboot, adding to its long legacy.
