Learn More About The Four Seasons
The Four Seasons, Netflix's comedy from Tina Fey, follows three longtime couples who take a group vacation together every season of the year, a tradition that has held their friendship together for decades. That tradition gets tested immediately when one couple announces they are divorcing mid-trip, forcing the rest of the group to pick sides, adjust seating charts, and figure out whether a twenty-year friendship built around couples can survive one couple no longer being a couple.
Based loosely on the 1981 Alan Alda film of the same name, the series leans into exactly the kind of ensemble chemistry that makes group-friendship comedies work: everyone has a very specific role in the group dynamic, the anxious one, the dramatic one, the planner, and the show gets a lot of mileage out of watching those roles get destabilized once a divorce and a much younger new girlfriend enter the picture.
What keeps the show from becoming a simple divorce comedy is how seriously it treats the actual grief of a friend group changing shape. Long-held resentments and loyalties surface as the remaining couples navigate awkward new dynamics, and the show is honest about how messy it gets when adult friendships have to make room for someone new while an old member is effectively pushed out.
