Netflix's new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie began streaming July 9, 2026, bringing Laura Ingalls Wilder's classic frontier stories to a new generation 40 years after Melissa Gilbert first played Laura in the original 1974-1983 NBC series. Gilbert herself has been thoughtful about the reboot's relationship to the original, telling PEOPLE she hopes the new series "create their own whole universe" rather than lean too heavily on crossover nostalgia.
