Fourth Wing officially took flight as a TV series on May 11, 2026, when Michael B. Jordan announced the Prime Video series order onstage at Amazon's Upfront presentation in New York City. Jordan's production company, Outlier Society, is executive producing alongside author Rebecca Yarros, Westworld creator Lisa Joy — who will direct the first episode — and showrunner Meredith Averill, best known for Wednesday, Jane the Virgin, and The Good Wife.

“The emotional stakes are sky high, the battles are epic, power dynamics are thrilling, and underneath it is so much humor and heart and a romance that will consume you,” Averill told the Upfront audience. Yarros, whose Empyrean series has sold more than 12 million copies and whose third installment, Onyx Storm, was the fastest-selling adult novel in two decades, said simply of the creative team: “I trust them completely.”
