Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), F1: The Movie follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a once-promising Formula 1 driver whose career was derailed by a devastating crash in 1993. Thirty years later, Hayes is talked into a comeback with the struggling fictional APXGP team, where he's paired with hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) in a partnership built on mutual suspicion that slowly turns into respect.

The production filmed real footage at actual Grand Prix weekends across the 2023 and 2024 F1 seasons, giving the film an unprecedented level of access to the sport and its drivers. Kerry Condon plays technical director Kate McKenna, while Javier Bardem plays Ruben Cervantes, the team owner whose entire operation is riding on Hayes and Pearce's success.

F1: The Movie released in summer 2025 to strong reviews and box office numbers, with critics praising its racing sequences as some of the most immersive ever put on screen. The film's blend of practical racing footage and real F1 access set it apart from prior racing dramas, drawing comparisons to Kosinski's earlier work on Top Gun: Maverick.
