Which Doja Cat Met Gala Era Are You?
Doja Cat has never met a Met Gala theme she didn't want to take completely literally, or completely sideways. Her 2026 look leaned all the way into the year's "Fashion Is Art" theme with a nude latex robe by Saint Laurent, designed by Anthony Vaccarello, featuring a floor-grazing cape and an oversized gold hardware detail. She was photographed leaving the Carlyle Hotel in the ensemble on May 4, keeping accessories minimal and letting the sculptural shape of the piece carry the whole look.
It's a striking contrast to where she's been before. In 2025, for the "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" theme, she wore a custom Marc Jacobs pinstripe bodysuit with exaggerated shoulders and an animal-print insert, an outfit rooted in the exhibition's exploration of Black dandyism, and served as a member of that year's host committee. The year before that, for "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," she turned her entrance into a performance, leaving the Mark Hotel in a plain towel before arriving on the steps in a floor-length, semi-sheer wet-look Vetements gown.
Her very first Met Gala, in 2023, set the tone for how unpredictable she'd be. For the "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" theme, she went full transformation, wearing prosthetics to resemble Lagerfeld's famously beloved cat Choupette, paired with a sparkling, ear-adorned Oscar de la Renta gown. It remains one of the most talked-about looks in the event's recent history.
Four Met Gala carpets in, Doja Cat has cycled through total transformation, theatrical shock value, culturally rooted tailoring, and now stripped-down minimalism, proof that no single era defines her.
