The Angry Birds Movie 3 is the latest chapter in the animated franchise that grew out of Rovio's wildly popular mobile game, following 2016's The Angry Birds Movie and 2019's The Angry Birds Movie 2. Directed by John Rice with a screenplay by Thurop Van Orman, the film is set for release on December 23, 2026, aiming for the same holiday-season family audience that helped the first two movies find success at the box office.

Jason Sudeikis returns once again as Red, the short-tempered bird whose journey across the franchise has taken him from friendless outcast to reluctant hero to, based on early marketing, a parent trying to figure out the next stage of his life. A teaser for the film reportedly shows Red raising his own kids, with Chuck and Bomb roped into babysitting duty, suggesting the series is leaning into a more grown-up, family-oriented chapter for its central trio.

Josh Gad and Danny McBride also return as Chuck and Bomb, the high-strung speedster and the anxious, literally explosive member of the group whose friendship with Red has anchored the franchise since the beginning. Rachel Bloom is also back as Silver, Chuck's sharp, resourceful sister who became a major addition to the ensemble in the second film. Maya Rudolph is expected to reprise her role as Matilda, the anger-management instructor whose calm exterior hides a temper of her own.

On the pig side of Bird Island's long-running rivalry, King Leonard Mudbeard has been the flamboyant, scheming face of the piggy kingdom across the franchise, forever cooking up new plans to get his hands on the birds' eggs, only to reveal, underneath all the bluster, a pig who mostly just wants to be liked. Bill Hader originated the role but has a scheduling conflict with a different animated project, so his involvement in Movie 3 has not been confirmed the way the rest of the returning cast has been.

The Angry Birds films have always leaned into big, colorful set-piece action married to genuinely sweet themes about found family and self-acceptance, values that trace directly back to the mobile game's simple premise: birds without wings, defending their eggs from egg-hungry pigs, using nothing but sheer momentum and attitude. That earnestness under the slapstick has been a big part of why the franchise has stuck around for over a decade despite its mobile-gaming-era roots.

The new cast additions for Movie 3 include Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, Lily James, Marcello Hernandez, Walker Scobell, and Nikki Glaser, among others, hinting at an expanded roster of new characters alongside the returning favorites. Psalm West has also been cast as Olly, described as the child of Red and Silver, reinforcing the sense that this installment is digging into the next generation of Bird Island.
