Learn More About Practical Magic 2

Nearly three decades after the original became a cult classic, "Practical Magic 2" arrives in theaters September 11, 2026, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman returning as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens. This time, though, the story shifts focus to the next generation: Sally's daughters, now grown, who are determined to end the curse that has haunted the Owens women for centuries in a way their mother and aunt never could.

Joey King plays Kylie, Sally's daughter, who takes the family's history into her own hands and sets out to break the curse herself, whatever the cost. Her reckless determination puts her on a genuinely dangerous path, one that forces Sally and Gillian to reckon with generational trauma they'd spent years trying to bury. Maisie Williams plays Antonia, Kylie's sister, whose fierce protectiveness over her sibling adds real tension to a family that's always struggled to balance love and self-preservation.

Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing return as Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet, the eccentric, wine-pouring, spell-brewing elders whose home has always been the emotional and magical center of the Owens family. Their blend of dry humor and genuine wisdom made them fan favorites the first time around, and early reactions to the sequel's trailer suggest they haven't lost a step. Lee Pace joins the cast as a scholar of the craft, brought in to help Sally and Gillian try to save Kylie before her plan spirals out of control, with Xolo MaridueƱa and Solly McLeod rounding out the younger generation's orbit.

What makes this sequel more than just nostalgia bait is its willingness to ask a genuinely interesting question: what happens to the choices you made to protect your kids once those kids are old enough to reject them? Sally has spent her whole adult life trying to shield her daughters from the same heartbreak that shaped her, and watching Kylie charge headfirst into exactly the danger Sally spent years avoiding gives the sequel real emotional stakes beyond its witchy set pieces.

The film moved up its release date by a week ahead of its September premiere, a sign of the confidence Warner Bros. has in reuniting Bullock and Kidman for the first time in the franchise since the original. Early buzz suggests it delivers both the family-first warmth and the genuine menace that made the first film such a durable favorite.
