Klara and the Sun brings Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro's acclaimed 2021 novel to the big screen, with 3000 Pictures and Spyglass Media Group releasing the film in theaters on October 23, 2026. Aran Murphy rounds out the central quartet as Rick, Josie's childhood friend and neighbor, who wasn't genetically "lifted" the way Josie was and faces a far more limited set of opportunities because of it. Rick's loyalty to Josie, unclouded by the social advantages that separate them, offers a quietly grounded counterpoint to the more heightened, tech-driven world around him. Natasha Lyonne appears as the Manager of the store where Klara and other AFs wait to be chosen, while Steve Buscemi joins the ensemble as well.

Ishiguro's novel was a critical sensation on release, praised for using a deceptively simple robot narrator to explore grief, inequality, and what it actually means to love someone.
