Learn More About Final Destination

The Final Destination series began in 2000, when director James Wong introduced a simple, chilling idea: what if Death is not a person or a monster, but a plan that does not like being interrupted? In the first film, Alex Browning has a vision of Volee Airlines Flight 180 exploding and gets himself and several classmates off the plane. Those survivors are then picked off one by one in elaborate accidents, which became the franchise signature.

That premise has carried six films so far. Final Destination 2 (2003) follows Kimberly Corman, who foresees a massive highway pile-up on Route 23 and saves a group of strangers, only for Death to come for them in reverse order. Final Destination 3 (2006) centers on Wendy Christensen and a roller coaster disaster, The Final Destination (2009) follows Nick O’Bannon and a speedway collapse, and Final Destination 5 (2011) introduced Sam Lawton and a bridge collapse along with a grim new rule: a survivor can supposedly gain extra life by taking another person’s.

Clear Rivers is one of the few characters who ties the early films together. She appears in both the first and second movies, and her story shows what happens to someone who understands Death’s design better than anyone and is not believed. That persistent, wary survivor energy is a big part of why fans keep talking about her.

Then there is William Bludworth, the mortician played by Tony Todd. He shows up with cryptic warnings, a dry sense of humor, and a knack for making a bad situation feel worse. He became one of the most recognizable parts of the series, and his return in the newest film was especially meaningful because Tony Todd died in 2024.

Final Destination Bloodlines arrived on May 16, 2025, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, and it went back to the idea that the past is never really over. The story opens in 1969 at the Sky View restaurant tower, where Iris Campbell has a vision of a collapse and saves the crowd. Decades later, her granddaughter Stefani Reyes, a college student, has nightmares about the event and learns that Death has been working through the survivors and their descendants in their original order.

Bloodlines was a big success. It reportedly earned about $317.9 million worldwide on a $50 million budget, and it is described as the best-reviewed and highest-grossing film in the series. A seventh film is scheduled for May 12, 2028, so the franchise is clearly not finished with us yet.

Part of the appeal is how the characters respond to the same impossible problem. Some trust their instincts, some research obsessively, some try to protect their family, and some simply try to outsmart fate. That is why a personality quiz works so well here: each of the five characters in this quiz handles dread differently, from Alex’s sharp intuition to Stefani’s relentless search for answers.
