Blades of the Guardians is director Yuen Woo-ping's return to the wuxia epic he helped define, adapting Xu Xianzhe's acclaimed comic series into a sweeping tale of bounty hunters, fugitives, and blood-soaked loyalty across the Sui dynasty desert. Wu Jing stars as Dao Ma, a hardened bounty hunter tasked with an escort mission that puts him on a collision course with rival factions, deadly rivals, and his own code of honor.

The film brings together a sprawling ensemble including Nicholas Tse, Sun Yizhou as the enigmatic Zhishilang, Chen Lijun as the fierce archer Ayuya, Ci Sha as the watchful He Yixuan, and Yu Shi as the eerie, silver-haired swordsman Shu. Action legends Tony Leung Ka-fai, Max Zhang, Jet Li, and Kara Hui round out the cast, with martial arts choreography overseen by Yuen Woo-ping himself alongside action director Ku Huen-Chiu.
