Which Hilda Character Are You?

Learn More About Hilda

Hilda is a gentle, beautifully drawn animated series that follows a blue-haired girl and her adventures in the fantastical valley of Trolberg. Based on the graphic novels by Luke Pearson, the Netflix series was produced by Silvergate Media and Mercury Filmworks and premiered in 2018, quickly winning fans for its warm tone and striking, folk-inspired art.

The story begins when Hilda, a fearless young explorer, leaves her wilderness home with her mother Johanna and her pet deerfox Twig for the walled city of Trolberg. There she meets new friends, including the sensible Frida and the sweet, imaginative David, and discovers that the city is full of hidden folklore: giants, trolls, elves, spirits, and creatures that most people never see.

What sets the series apart is its emphasis on empathy. Rather than treating monsters as threats, the show nearly always encourages understanding and communication. Hilda solves problems by asking questions, listening, and treating strange creatures with the same kindness she gives her friends.

The series ran for three seasons and earned multiple Emmy and Annie recognitions, as well as a feature-length special, Hilda and the Mountain King. It has often appeared on lists of the best animated shows of the last decade, praised for its character writing and its cozy-but-eerie atmosphere.

The supporting cast adds plenty of personality. Alfur Aldric is the mysterious elf who guards ancient secrets, Tontu is the grumbling house spirit, and Trevor brings sibling-rivalry energy in a different form. Each character is expressive enough that fans debate which one they are most like.
