Sgt. Frog, known in Japan as Keroro Gunso, is a long-running comedy franchise created by Mine Yoshizaki that follows an alien platoon of frog-like Keronians who arrive on Earth intending to conquer it. Instead, their leader, Sergeant Keroro, ends up living in the basement of an ordinary family, the Hinatas, where he spends more time building plastic model kits than planning an invasion. The result is one of anime's most beloved workplace-comedy-meets-sci-fi series, and it is reportedly returning to the spotlight with a new anime adaptation.

Keroro himself is a lovable failure of a commander: lazy, obsessed with hobbies and always convinced that his next scheme will work. Despite the constant chaos, his loyalty to his squad is genuine, which is why fans have followed him for so long. His catchphrase and goofy laugh have become iconic.

Giroro is the fierce, no-nonsense corporal, a warrior with a scar and a burning sense of duty. He is famously grumpy, deeply proud and secretly soft-hearted, particularly when it comes to his human crush Natsumi Hinata. Giroro's outdoor tent and campfire camp have become a recurring visual gag.

Tamama, the youngest member of the platoon, is a sweet-loving, emotional private second class who hero-worships Keroro. He can be adorable, then suddenly terrifying when angered. Kururu, the sardonic intelligence officer, is an eerie, laughing genius who builds inventions and delights in manipulating his comrades. Dororo, the platoon's ninja, is gentle, sensitive and constantly overlooked, which makes him surprisingly relatable.

What made the franchise so popular was how it balanced parody and heart. It parodied mecha, tokusatsu and pop culture constantly, while also giving each character a distinct personality and quiet emotional beats. Even now, fans find the platoon's mix of chaos and camaraderie hard to resist.
