Which Shrinking Character Are You?
The Therapists (and Patients) of Shrinking
Shrinking follows Jimmy Laird, played by Jason Segel, a therapist who starts breaking every professional boundary he has after the death of his wife, telling his patients exactly what he really thinks instead of the usual careful, measured guidance. It's a premise that could easily tip into gimmick, but the show grounds it in real grief, real friendship, and a genuinely great ensemble.
Jessica Williams plays Gaby, Jimmy's colleague and closest friend, who ends up quietly holding Jimmy's life together while dealing with plenty of her own. Harrison Ford plays Paul, their gruff, Parkinson's-diagnosed mentor at the practice, who has spent the show slowly, reluctantly opening up in ways nobody expected from him. At home, Lukita Maxwell plays Jimmy's daughter Alice, navigating her own grief and her father's unraveling, while Christa Miller's Liz, the family's neighbor, has become something like a surrogate mother figure whether Jimmy asked for the help or not.
What makes Shrinking work is that everyone in this ensemble is, in their own way, in therapy for something, whether they're the one with the license or not. It's a show about people who are supposed to have it figured out slowly admitting they don't, and finding their way there together. Take the quiz to find out which character from Shrinking you actually are.
